Walking Program Comes to Tanger Outlets Mebane

Walking and window shopping could be the first step toward a healthier you.

People throughout the area can take steps toward a healthier lifestyle by joining the Cone Health Walks Club. The club is a joint project of Cone Health and Tanger Outlets.

“Walking is an easy, low-impact way to exercise for most people,” says Cone Health MedCenter Mebane’s William Plonk, MD. “Studies find that just 30 minutes of exercise a day can measurably improve your health. This is a convenient way to get that time in.”

People can become Cone Health Walks Club members and earn prizes for reaching walking milestones. Walkers receive gifts at sign-up, at 50 miles, 200 miles, 500 miles and 1,000 miles. The first 10 walkers to reach 1,000 miles before Jan. 31, 2018, will receive a $100 gift card. Walkers can sign up and obtain course maps in the management offices of Tanger’s shopper services.minutes of exercise a day can measurably improve your health. Two courses have been laid out throughout the 72 stores of Tanger Outlets Mebane. The courses start at shopper services. After banking by the Brooks Brother’s Factory Outlet Store and cutting the corner around Michael Kors, walkers can take a left and cruise by Coach Outlet toward shopper services to complete the quarter-mile lap. The more adventurous ones can head right at Coach Outlet, past the Kay Jewelers Outlet and around the building to walk the half-mile loop.

“We want the Cone Health Walks Club to be a relaxing way to enjoy Tanger Outlets,” says Tanger General Manager Jeffrey Johnson. “Bring your child in her stroller for an easy walk in the morning or powerwalk the outlets with a friend during lunch. This is all about fitness and fun.”

Cone Health Walks Club members can walk the courses during regular business hours (9 a.m.-9 p.m. except 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sundays). For more information, go to
