Cone Health Receives Award for Engaging Physicians
Physicians don’t always feel part of the hospital where they work; at Cone Health they do.
Cone Health has been named a 2018 Pinnacle of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey for its work with physicians. The Pinnacle of Excellence Award recognizes top-performing health care organizations on the basis of extraordinary achievement and consistently high levels of excellence. These levels must be retained for at least 3 years.
“Physicians and other providers are absolutely central to the care we provide,” says Terry Akin, CEO, Cone Health. “Physicians are not only on the team, but provide major leadership in helping set the strategy and guide our organization. They get much of the credit for our national leadership in quality and value. This award is validation of the strong relationship we have with physicians at Cone Health.”
Cone Health worked with the Center for Creative Leadership to create a unique program to train physicians in leadership. The Physician Leadership Academy has graduated scores of physician leaders over the past 5 years. In fact, 9 physicians are among the senior executives at Cone Health. Cone Health also offers a host of other programs aimed at shaping physician skills as care providers.
"We are proud to partner with Cone Health to support their mission to provide safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.” said Patrick T. Ryan, CEO of Press Ganey. “They are truly dedicated to delivering exceptional care in the communities they serve, and their commitment to capturing and acting on patient experience feedback is a very powerful demonstration of this.”
Cone Health CEO Terry Akin kicked off the Press Ganey conference as one of four panelists on a CEO round table. Jonathan Berry, MD, Joseph Stern, MD, and Moses Cone Hospital president Mickey Foster headlined a seminar on physician engagement.
