Cone Health’s Catherine Rossi Named President-Elect of the Academy of Forensic Nursing

Rossi started Cone Health’s forensic nursing program in 1997.


Catherine Rossi, RN, has been named president-elect of the Academy of Forensic Nursing. The academy promotes compassionate care to people involved in trauma. Rossi is a family nurse practitioner who specializes in sexual assault care 

Rossi established Cone Health’s Forensic Nursing Program in 1997. Today, specially trained nurses work in all Cone Health emergency departments collecting evidence of sexual assault or domestic violence. The nurses are also trained to testify in court cases and other legal proceedings.  

For more than two decades, Rossi has been instrumental in promoting forensic nursing in North Carolina and the Southeast. She often lectures on forensic nursing and interpersonal violence to law enforcement, attorneys and health care providers.

Rossi received her associate degree in nursing science from Regent’s College. She earned her master’s degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 2014. Rossi is a lifetime member of the International Association of Forensic Nurses and served as their certification commissioner in 2017.
