Early registration for the 26th Annual Women’s Only 5K Walk & Run – a $30 registration fee – is available through Sept. 12. Starting Sept. 13, the registration fee increases to $40.
Women's Only 5K Walk & Run
The event, which raises money to help local women detect breast cancer and receive support during treatment, takes place on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Women’s Hospital in Greensboro.
Last year’s Women’s Only 5K Run & Walk raised $99,703 to benefit the Cone Health Mammography Scholarship Fund and the Cone Health Alight Program. The Mammography Scholarship Fund offers access to lifesaving mammograms to women 40 and older who are uninsured or who aren’t able to pay for the tests. The Alight Program acts as a support system for breast cancer patients as they undergo treatment, providing services like help with paying bills and access to both educational resources and emotional assistance.
In addition to the 5K Walk & Run, there are other ways to participate in the event. Girls age 6 and younger are invited to be part of the Girls Only Mini-Run for a registration fee of $10. Also, those who are interested in supporting participants and breast cancer survivors without actually taking part in the race themselves can still join in on the fundraising by purchasing Support Team shirts for $20 to wear at the event.
“This event makes a huge difference in our community every year, and helps hundreds of Triad area women get access to lifesaving breast cancer detection that they likely wouldn’t have had otherwise,” said Cone Health Vice President of Oncology Services Skip Hislop. “It also helps to ensure that when women become breast cancer patients at Cone Health, they’re supported throughout the process thanks to the Alight Program.”
