Cone Health Prepares for Hurricanes
Physicist BJ Sintay, PhD, Gov. Roy Cooper, Radiation Oncologist Matt Manning, MD
When Hurricane Florence hit, many cancer patients couldn’t continue their treatments in waterlogged Wilmington, NC. Fortunately, a few were able to continue treatments at Cone Health.
Out of that experience came the North Carolina Radiation Oncology Disaster Preparedness Conference held this past weekend in Wilmington. Radiation Oncology experts from Cone Health and New Hanover Regional Medical Center joined health care workers, emergency management officials and Gov. Roy Cooper. They shared experiences, built protocols and set guidelines to help people continue vital treatments after future disasters.
63 participants from 25 counties in North Carolina and 2 counties in South Carolina attended the Wilmington event.
