“This is a recognition of Dr. Manning’s work in advancing the practice of radiation oncology,” says Skip Hislop, VP, oncology services, Cone Health Cancer Center. “His work has long been paying dividends for all of the radiation oncology patients at Cone Health.”

Manning’s research on high-tech therapies, including stereotactic radiosurgery and brachytherapy, has helped elevate Cone Health’s cutting-edge clinical care nationally. In recent years, he has been published in the Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics and International Radiation Oncology Biology and Physics. In 2016, he received the Association of Community Cancer Centers’ Innovator Award.  In collaboration with the Greensboro Health Disparities Collaborative, he has also co-authored studies to eliminate racial disparity in cancer care.

“Dr. Manning joins an elite group of just 26 physicians and medical physicists who are recognized this year for their far-reaching contributions to the field of radiation oncology and their progress in advancing cancer research, education and patient care,” said Paul Harari, MD, Chair of the ASTRO Board of Directors. “Congratulations to Dr. Manning for achieving the designation of ASTRO Fellow.”

Awarded annually since 2006, the ASTRO Fellows program recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to radiation oncology through research, education, patient care and/or service to the field. Since its inception, the Fellow designation has been awarded to just 353 of ASTRO’s more than 10,000 members worldwide.

Manning will receive his Fellow designation at an awards ceremony Sept. 17, during ASTRO’s 61st Annual Meeting in Chicago.
