Terry Akin

With news reports about the COVID-19 virus changing daily, it’s understandable to feel concerned and even a bit anxious. This may be especially true for those of us who work in health care settings.

I want to assure each of you that Cone Health is fully prepared to keep our patients and our team members safe, should the virus come to the communities we serve. All across our organization, we have seen an extraordinary level of teamwork and a deep commitment to being ready for those we serve. This kind of support truly is in keeping with the caring Cone Health culture you have created here.

Our Infection Prevention, Emergency Management and Health at Work teams — along with medical staff leadership and our senior executive team — have been monitoring this evolving global health issue closely; conferring with the local and state health departments, as well as with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and holding regular meetings focused on our emergency preparedness protocols. Cone Health has the needed supplies, staffing and space identified to serve patients who may need us. We have shared screening procedures for both our Emergency Departments and ambulatory settings, held trainings across our system, outlined visitor restrictions, and put the necessary environmental and safety protocols in place to keep people safe. You can read more about our extensive preparations and find answers to Frequently Asked Questions on Cone Connects and In addition, you can expect to receive regular communication from our teams in the coming days and weeks. We appreciate your continued support of our important preparations.

Cone Health will continue to be right here with all those we serve, whatever the circumstances. It is a true privilege and honor to care for our communities, and I thank each of you for all you do to make this happen every day.
