Cone Health Extends Deadline for Employee Vaccination
The move reflects changes since the deadline was announced.
Cone Health employees now have until Oct. 28 to get their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines to meet employee vaccination requirements. Previously they were required to be fully vaccinated by Oct. 1.
Cone Health has pledged to give employees every opportunity to become vaccinated to continue working at Cone Health. Since the vaccination requirement was announced to Cone Health employees on July 22, the FDA has fully approved the Pfizer COVID-19 coronavirus vaccination. The government has also announced that it will not allow health care organizations to care for Medicare and Medicaid patients unless they have mandatory vaccination policies.
“We want to provide team members with ample time to consider all new information,” says Cone Health CEO Dr. Mary Jo Cagle. “We hope that team members still considering vaccination will make the choice to receive the vaccine and continue caring for our communities during this critical time and beyond.”
Other aspects of the vaccination requirement remain in place. Employees preferring the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine must still take it by Oct. 1. The deadline for submitting medical and religious exemption requests has passed.
Cone Health will not report employee vaccination compliance numbers until the deadline has passed.
