The two will play leading roles as Cone Health and Sentara Healthcare combine.

Mandy Eaton has been named chief operating officer (COO) of Cone Health. Dr. Marlon Priest has been named chief clinical officer (CCO). Eaton will step into her role on April 25. Priest starts April 12. As COO, Eaton will oversee the day-to-day operations of Cone Health and its more than 13,000 employees. As CCO, Priest will be responsible for clinical operations that had more than 840,000 patient visits last year. Mancy Eaton, COO

“We have such an opportunity ahead of us with our pending affiliation with Sentara Healthcare,” says Eaton. “I look forward to blending our operations and cultures and shaping how we build an even better health system for our employees and the people we serve.”

Eaton has been with Cone Health since the 2013 merger with Alamance Regional Medical Center. At Alamance Regional, she served as vice president of human resources. Eaton worked in human resources at Cone Health before becoming executive vice president of People & Culture in 2018.

Dr. Marlon PriestBoard certified in internal and emergency medicine, Priest has led multiple clinical operations and physician talent development efforts including serving as executive vice president and CMO of Bon Secours Health System (Marriottsville, Maryland). Priest was one of Becker’s 100 Hospital and CMOs to know in 2017.

“I am very excited about building on the outstanding reputations of Cone Health and Sentara to provide easier access to the best care for more people,” points out Priest. “Both are leading organizations in value-based care—in keeping people well instead of simply treating them when they are sick. I see my role as helping clinicians unleash their power of caring.”

Eaton will succeed Dr. Mary Jo Cagle in the COO role. Cagle will become regional president once the Cone Health-Sentara Healthcare merger closes.
