Cone Health Statement on Chauvin Verdict
The following comes from CEO Terry Akin and chief operating officer Dr. Mary Jo Cagle.
As you are likely aware by now, yesterday a jury found former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of all counts in the murder of George Floyd. It goes without saying that this is a highly significant moment for the Floyd family as they grieve the loss of their loved one. It is also a deeply important time in our nation, especially for Black Americans. We believe this decision is a significant step in the continued fight for racial and social justice.
We want to acknowledge, respectfully, that individuals across our organization and communities are experiencing a wide range of feelings, thoughts and emotions. Some of us may feel ready to express these emotions and others may need time to process alone or with trusted family and friends. We are mindful of this, and we want to reiterate our deep commitment to ensuring that we all feel safe to express ourselves. Likewise, our values and commitments call on us to treat each other with care and respect, despite our differences.
The current times are deeply challenging, and we want you to know that Cone Health is committed to being right here with each of you. We are grateful to you, we care for you, and we thank you for finding strength in caring for yourselves and each other.
