Pediatricians Urge Mask Wearing in School and Vaccinations

The group calls on action to protect children from COVID-19.

15 leading Alamance County pediatricians are urging that students wear masks in schools. The physicians have signed a letter to the editor in The Times News. In it, they outline the threat COVID-19 is to school-aged children and call on adults to take steps to protect them.

“Currently, 20 percent of all COVID-19 cases in Alamance County are in people under 18 years old. There are more children hospitalized due to COVID-19 in North Carolina and across the country than at any other time during this pandemic. With the highly transmissible Delta variant, more children are becoming sicker. While most children infected with COVID-19 will survive, an increasing number of children are dying. We cannot allow a single child to die of a vaccine-preventable illness.”
