Alamance Regional Medical Center Among Top 5% for Patient Safety
From top 10% last year to top 5% this year according to Healthgrades.
Burlington, NC –Alamance Regional Medical Center is a Healthgrades 2022 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ recipient. This distinction places Alamance Regional among the top 5% of hospitals as evaluated by Healthgrades. Healthgrades is one of the most trusted resources for information about hospitals and providers.
According to the CDC, 1.7 million infections are caught in hospitals or doctor’s offices. Infections, falls and errors result in more days in the hospital, more intensive care and even more deaths.
“There are no better indicators of high-quality care than high marks for patient safety,” says Mark Gordon, president, Alamance Regional. “To set a high mark for patient safety and then to improve on it—even during a pandemic—shows how committed our staff is. Everyone who walks into a patient room, whether to clean it or to care for someone in it, is committed to their safety.”
During the study period (2018 through 2020), Healthgrades found that patients treated in hospitals receiving the Healthgrades 2022 Patient Safety Excellence Award™, when compared to non-recipient hospitals*, were, on average:
● 55.8% less likely to experience an in-hospital fall resulting in hip fracture
● 52.6% less likely to experience a collapsed lung resulting from a procedure or surgery in or around the chest
● 66.2% less likely to experience pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital
● 65.8% less likely to experience catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired in the hospital
“Through our 2022 Patient Safety Excellence Awards, we recognize hospitals that excel in providing top-quality care for their patients while preventing serious injuries during hospital stays,” says Dr. Brad Bowman, chief medical officer and head of data science, Healthgrades. “We are proud to name Alamance Regional Medical Center as a 2022 Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient and look forward to their continued efforts to make patient safety a priority.”
