Cone Health Expands School-Based Telehealth
Even more students receive virtual care at schools across the Triad.

GREENSBORO- Cone Health is expanding its school-based telehealth program to 12 additional Title 1 elementary schools this fall, bringing the total to 40 schools across Guilford, Rockingham and Alamance counties.
The program reduces absenteeism and improves academic performance by taking care of minor medical ailments at school through video visits with a provider. The children return to class instead of being picked up from school by a parent--half of whom report missing at least two hours of work when picking up a sick child. Since launching in 2022, Cone Health’s school-based telehealth program has grown from 1,440 visits in its first two years to a projected 3,206 visits in 2024–2025.
The schools being added to the telehealth program are:
- Foust Elementary in Greensboro
- Guilford Elementary in Greensboro
- Irving Park Elementary in Greensboro
- Jamestown Elementary in Jamestown
- Jefferson Elementary in Greensboro
- Jones Elementary in Greensboro
- Leaksville Spray Elementary in Eden
- Pilot Elementary in Greensboro
- R. Homer Andrews Elementary in Burlington
- Reedy Fork Elementary in Greensboro
- Shadybrook Elementary in High Point
- Triangle Lake Elementary in High Point
“This expansion means more students will receive timely care without leaving school, and more parents can avoid costly and time-consuming trips to an urgent care or the emergency department,” said Dr. John Jenkins, Cone Health Medical Director for School-Based Telehealth. We’re proud to be part of a movement that’s transforming how children access care.”
To support the expansion, Cone Health is recruiting certified medical assistants to staff school clinics. These roles offer school-day hours and follow the academic calendar—ideal for those seeking work-life balance. Check conehealth.com/careers for more information.
Parents are encouraged to sign consent forms during upcoming school open houses, including Guilford County’s on Aug. 21, to enroll their children in the school-based telehealth program.
