Cone Health Plans Mebane Hospital

The health system is applying for the 46 acute care beds allocated to Alamance County.

Greensboro – Cone Health seeks state permission to build a full-service hospital in Mebane. Cone Health Mebane Hospital will represent an investment of up to $275 million in the health of Alamance County and the surrounding area. The facility will sit at 103 Medical Park Drive, adjacent to Cone Health MedCenter Mebane.

Many residents of eastern Alamance County already trust Cone Health for their health care. The 161,578 sq. ft. facility would bring care close to home, helping residents avoid the 10-mile trip west on I-40/85 to Alamance Regional Medical Center or east along that same busy interstate to hospitals further away.

Cone Health brings more than a proposed hospital to eastern Alamance County, points out Dr. Yun Boylston, a pediatrician at Burlington Pediatrics and Mebane Pediatrics. She is also the Cone Health Board of Trustees Chair. “Cone Health has led the way in delivering value and better health for over a decade. Cone Health Mebane Hospital will bring the high-quality, affordable care that Cone Health is known for closer to our neighbors in Alamance and Orange counties. I’m excited about the project’s potential to improve the future health of our families and local communities.”

The CON submission for the Cone Health Mebane Hospital includes:

  • 46 acute care beds
  • 15 emergency department bays
  • 3 general operating rooms
  • 1 C-section operating room
  • 2 procedure rooms
  • 3 obstetric labor, delivery, recovery beds
  • 7 observation beds
  • Imaging, ancillary and support services

“Cone Health has successfully helped meet the health care needs of eastern Alamance County close to home for more than a dozen years,” says Cone Health President and CEO Dr. Mary Jo Cagle. “This major investment positions Cone Health Mebane Hospital to become a significant part of this community for decades to come.”

Should the state approve Cone Health’s application, construction of Cone Health Mebane Hospital is expected to be completed in 2028 with plans to open in 2029.
