Cone Health Doubles Size of Burlington Urgent Care

Just in time for flu season.

Greensboro— Cone Health has expanded its urgent care at 3866 Rural Retreat Rd in Burlington to better serve Alamance County. The expansion has more than doubled the size of the existing urgent care, from 1,450 sq. ft. to 3,450 sq. ft.

For patients, that means more space, improved capacity, and continued access to care during the busiest illness season of the year. By leasing adjoining space and phasing construction, Cone Health avoided temporary closures and made sure patients continued to receive care throughout renovations, even as demand peaks during flu, RSV, and COVID seasons. 

“This expansion reflects our commitment to meeting our community where they are—especially during peak illness seasons,” says urgent care nurse manager Chanda Cotter, BSN, RN. “By carefully phasing construction, we were able to improve access and capacity without disrupting care for patients who rely on this location.”

Phased construction began in August 2025. The now-expanded urgent care is better positioned to handle higher patient volumes and further support Alamance Regional Medical Center just minutes away. 

This urgent care site features updated medical equipment, onsite laboratory testing, and imaging services. Patients can also continue to view estimated waits online before arriving. 

Operating hours will remain unchanged: 

• Monday–Friday: 8 a.m.– 8 p.m.
• Saturday–Sunday: 8 a.m.– 4 p.m. 

Staffing levels will adjust over time as patient volumes grow. 

Cone Health urgent care locations are designed to treat conditions that are not life-threatening but still require timely medical attention.
