Cone Health Mebane Hospital to Move Forward

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Cone Health has reached an important milestone in its plans to bring a hospital to Mebane and surrounding communities. The appeal related to Cone Health's Certificate of Need (CON) for a hospital in Mebane has been dismissed. Cone Health expects to receive its CON in the coming days. A CON is a state-required approval designed to ensure new healthcare facilities and services address demonstrated community needs. 

The $250 million Cone Health Mebane Hospital will be at 103 Medical Park Drive, adjacent to Cone Health MedCenter Mebane. The 161,578 sq. ft. facility will bring care closer to home and meet the medical needs of an area that has seen a 23% growth in population since 2020.   

"This is an exciting milestone for Cone Health and the communities we serve," said Chad Boore, president of Cone Health's North and East Markets. "It allows us to move forward with planning for a project that supports expanded access to care in one of the fastest-growing areas of our region."

The Mebane Hospital project is part of Cone Health's strategy to expand access to high-quality care that supports long-term growth and community needs. 

Once Cone Health is issued the certificate of need, design work will move forward, with the facility targeted to open by early 2030.

  • 46 acute care beds  
  • 15 emergency department bays  
  • 3 general operating rooms  
  • 1 C-section operating room  
  • 2 procedure rooms  
  • 3 obstetric labor, delivery, recovery beds  
  • 7 observation beds  
  • Imaging, ancillary and support services
