Cone Health Unveils Healing Art at The Resurgent
The work was made possible through donations.
Greensboro – A striking grid of portraits, patterns and maps greets people heading into The Resurgent-- the multi-use facility along Greensboro’s historic East Market Street corridor. Cone Health Philanthropy partnered with Laura Way at The Arts Council of Greater Greensboro to develop this art that evokes a sense of community and belonging.
At Cone Health, healing arts are an intentional and essential part of health care. Research and experience show that thoughtfully curated art can reduce stress, support emotional well-being and create a sense of welcome and dignity for patients, families, team members and visitors. Through its Healing Arts program, Cone Health uses art to humanize health care and promote comfort and connection. The art--now on public display in the building’s main lobby--offers a powerful expression of healing, heritage and hope for all who enter.
Carolina Folks at The Resurgent is by North Carolina born artist Ransome. This work is inspired by his Carolina Migration collage series and is deeply rooted in storytelling and resilience. These themes honor the cultural legacy of East Greensboro, a historically Black community known for its resilience, leadership and rich contributions to the region’s history.
“Carolina Folks is a testament to what’s possible when donors invest not only in health care services, but in the full experience of healing,” said Michelle Schneider, Cone Health VP & Chief Philanthropy Officer. “Because of philanthropic support, we’re able to create spaces that reflect the community’s identity, history and strength while offering a sense of calm and hope to everyone who walks through our doors.”
The Resurgent is co-owned by Cone Health and the NC A&T Real Estate Foundation. Sitting at the intersection of East Market Street and Benbow Road, The Resurgent houses urgent care, primary care and women’s health services alongside entrepreneurial and community spaces. The building was designed to serve both health and economic needs, reinforcing East Market Street’s role as a vital connector of care, culture and opportunity.
The newly installed artwork serves as an anchor for this vision rooted in place, inspired by community and made possible through donor generosity.

Cone Health Philanthropy ensures that donor dollars support initiatives that uplift patients and communities alike, creating environments where healing is felt not just through care, but through connection.
