Health Care and Family Resources Coming to Asheboro

Building A Better You promises to add years to your life.

Greensboro- Randolph County residents can get free health care and connect with local community resources all while taking steps toward living better lives. That is the focus of Cone Health’s Center for Health Equity Building a Better You: Asheboro on Saturday, April 18, at the Asheboro High School Gymnasium at 1221 S. Park St, Asheboro.

Cone Health found that people who live in the 27203, 27204 and 27205 ZIP codes of Randolph County have shorter life expectancies than people living in other ZIP codes. That is caused by many factors including access to health care, the availability of healthy food and affordable housing. Cone Health created Building a Better You events to arm community members with the resources to help close the 15-year life expectancy gap by five years.

The free community wellness event will feature interactive activities for children, health education for families, and opportunities to win $100 gift cards. And it connects attendees with more than 35 local organizations offering wellness services and community resources. Services include weight management, diabetes and nutrition education, and smoking cessation education.

“My personal motto, L.I.F.E.—Listen, Investigate, Follow-up, and Engage—has become our team’s approach to ensuring we are truly responsive to the needs of those we serve,” says Director of The Cone Health Center for Health Equity Dr. Ruth Phillips. “With our communities, we are strengthening connections, expanding access to vital resources, and advancing better health outcomes for all—building healthier communities one connection at a time.”

Last year Cone Health’s Building a Better You events averaged 200+ attendees, with participation growing steadily across the region. These events help residents connect with services that support chronic disease management, mental health, nutrition and family care often for the first time.
