NOTICE: For the safety of our patients and employees, masks are still required at all Cone Health facilities.COVID-19 Info: Vaccine Scheduling | Visitor Guidelines | COVID-19 Testing | More
Monoclonal antibodies are human-made substances that act like natural antibodies. Antibodies are proteins that your immune system makes to help defend against a threat, like bacteria and viruses.
Monoclonal antibodies for COVID-19 target the virus that causes the infection. When the virus enters your body, it invades healthy cells and starts to make more virus. This can make you sick. These antibodies may block the virus from getting into your cells so it can't make more virus. This may help limit the illness. And it may help you stay out of the hospital.
This treatment is given as an IV infusion, through a needle in a vein. It's only given one time, usually in a hospital or clinic. It may take about an hour to get the treatment. And you may need to stay for a while afterward. That's so you can be watched for an allergic reaction or other problems.
This treatment for COVID-19 is still being studied. So there's a lot that isn't known about it yet.
Your doctor can help you understand if this treatment might be right for you.
