What You Need to Know About NC Medicaid Changes 

The initial open enrollment period has closed for NC Medicaid Transformation. If you were required to change to a new NC Medicaid health plan and did not enroll, the state has selected a new NC Medicaid health plan for you. Your new NC Medicaid health plan is for healthcare you receive on or after July 1, 2021.

You should have received a welcome packet and a new insurance card from your new NC Medicaid health plan. It is important that you bring your new health plan card for your healthcare visits on or after July 1. Read more information.

How do I know if my Cone Health doctor is in a new NC Medicaid health plan?

Cone Health doctors and hospitals are participating in the following NC Medicaid health plans:

  • HealthyBlue
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • WellCare

After July 1, you can change your health plan or primary care provider for any reason through September 30, 2021.

  • To change your health plan, contact the NC Medicaid Enrollment Broker.
  • To change your assigned primary care provider listed on your insurance card, contact your health plan.

Important: If you have a medical emergency, you should go to the closest hospital emergency room.

When did the initial NC Medicaid health plan enrollment end?

The first open enrollment period ended May 21, 2021. The state selected a new NC Medicaid health plan for people who were required to change plans and did not select a new health plan.

When do the new plans take effect?

New plans will take effect on July 1, 2021. This means your new NC Medicaid health plan is responsible for healthcare you receive on or after July 1, 2021.

How do I know which plan I am in?

Can I change my plan?

Yes, once the new NC Medicaid health plans take effect on July 1, you can change your health plan for any reason through September 30, 2021.

To change your health plan, contact the NC Medicaid Enrollment Broker. You can call toll-free at 1-833-870-5500. The Enrollment Broker Call Center is open Monday - Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Can I change my primary care provider?

Yes, once the new NC Medicaid health plans take effect on July 1, you can change your primary care provider for any reason through September 30, 2021.
