Important Update on Clinical Precepting Eligibility

Cone Health is committed to supporting high-quality clinical education experiences. As part of this commitment, we have recently updated our eligibility criteria for graduate nursing students seeking clinical placements.

Effective immediately, we are no longer accepting students from fully online programs such as Walden University, Purdue University Global and similar institutions. We have moved to a preferred list of schools, primarily brick-and-mortar institutions located in North Carolina.

For students who have already begun clinical rotations within Cone Health, please note that you will be able to complete your training.

If you are still in didactic or lower-level coursework, we strongly encourage you to plan accordingly and explore alternate clinical placement options if needed.

We appreciate your understanding as we continue to strengthen the quality and consistency of our preceptorship program.

If you are enrolled at one of the schools above in one of the programs above, you can complete the form below to request review of your clinical placement needs. Please email the completed form to katina.blackwellmitchell@conehealth.com.

If we can secure a preceptor to meet your preceptor needs, Katina Blackwell-Mitchell will reach out to assist you with your onboarding process. Please note the onboarding timeline requirements. We cannot accommodate any placement requests received less than 90 days prior to the start of the expected rotation dates.

Onboarding Requirements

Starting January 6, 2025, the following items will be required at least 60 days in advance to ensure your APP students are onboarded and able to begin their rotations at Cone Health on time:

  1. Completed CHL Individual Clinical Student/Faculty Access Request Form
  2. Course Work Request Form (CWFR)
  3. Professional Photo for ID Badge

ID Badge Photo Requirements

  • No selfies, car photos, filters, photoshopped, or cropped group photos
  • No masks, phones, caps, or hats visible in the photo
  • Solid color background (excluding black or white)
  • Attire: Business casual or uniform
  • Forward-facing pose
