AHA BLS provider classroom-based courses are no longer taught for employees at Cone Health. AHA Basic Life Support classes are offered to the community based on schedule availability. If you are a Cone Health employee, the Red Cross BLS provider online blended course will be assigned to your HLC (Healthstream) to-do list 90 days before your BLS expiration date on record in your HLC. If you have not received the assignment, contact Rob Emory at rob.emory@conehealth.com or Chris Norwood at chris.norwood@conehealth.com to add the course to your HLC.

What is the Red Cross BLS Provider blended course?
This video-based online course teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both in- and out-of-hospital settings.
This course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. It includes adult, child, and infant rescue techniques. This course also teaches relief of choking.
After completing the Red Cross BLS online course, employees will find a Red Cross skills session in the course catalog on their HLC account. The Red Cross skills session requires practice on adult and infant manikins, measuring compression depth, rate, and compression release(recoil) as well as ventilation volume and rate. The skills session takes about 30 mins on average.
A Red Cross BLS provider eCard is immediately issued after skills are completed.
Who is the target audience for this course?
This course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in- and out-of-hospital settings. This audience includes nurses, physicians, EMS professionals, students in a healthcare program at a university/college, allied health professionals (physical therapists, occupational therapist, athletic trainers, etc.) and others who may need training in basic life support skills.
What is the format for the AHA BLS provider classroom-based course?
AHA BLS Providers teaches skills using the AHA's Practice-While-Watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students' acquisition of skills. Skills practice is included throughout the AHA BLS Providers Course. The course also includes skills testing and a written test to ensure students demonstrate competency performing skills and have mastered knowledge of cognitive information.

Can I take an Online AHA Course to become certified?
Yes, however there are 2 steps.
- Complete the Heartcode BLS provider online course $36, at the AHA website (https://elearning.heart.org) and print out a completion certificate.
- Call or text Rob Emory at 336-580-9993 or email rob.emory@conehealth.com to schedule a 30-min skills session $30.
- eCards are issued immediately when skills are completed.
How do you complete the Online AHA Course?
Step 1
- Go to https://elearning.heart.org.
- Locate the Course Catalog.
- Choose the Heartcode BLS provider online course.
- Click Purchase.
- Enter Log In and Password or Register as a new user.
- Follow instructions on each screen.
- Complete the online course (1-2 hours).
- Complete course evaluation.
- Print certificate. You MUST bring the certificate as documentation that you completed Part 1 of the course.
Step 2
- Call or text Rob Emory at 336-580-9993 email rob.emory@conehealth.com to schedule a 30-min skills check-off $30.
- Bring certificate to Staff Education at the White Box, 706 Green Valley Rd, rm#302, Greensboro NC 27408.
- eCard will be issued immediately after skills are completed.
What if I'm an employee and my other employer or the nursing school I'm attending will only accept AHA and doesn't accept Red Cross?
- Go to https://eleaning.heart.org and choose the AHA Heartcode BLS provider online course $36. Complete the course and bring the AHA certificate to a Red Cross skills session. Find a Red Cross skills session in the course catalog on your HLC.
- An AHA BLS eCard card will be issued to you when skills are completed.
