Psychiatry Residency Program
Program Overview
Our goal within Cone Health’s department of psychiatry is to provide a training and education experience that combines best practices with cutting-edge research. Our residents will leave the program able to provide the highest quality of care to individuals with psychiatric illnesses. They’ll also be armed with tech-forward skills, allowing them to be well versed in services like virtual care and telepsychiatry. Our program has a strong focus on integrating behavioral health and primary care using the collaborative care model, helping to create leaders within the medical community.
Our psychiatry residency program was established to address the national and statewide shortage of psychiatrists, making this an in-demand specialty. Graduates of our program will be well prepared to offer integrated psychiatric support within any medical setting – a support element that’s becoming increasingly essential with integrated patient care and wellness.
During the program, residents will have access to our four-county comprehensive behavioral health network, including our freestanding behavioral health hospital with adult, child and adolescent inpatient units. They will be exposed to four outpatient locations with specialized treatment for major depression with TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), chemical dependency and psychiatric intensive outpatient groups, partial hospital programs, telepsychiatry hub, injection clinics, open access care and the first of its kind “Guilford County Crisis Care Center.”
