PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency
Message from the Director
Thank you for your interest in Cardiology Pharmacy!

The philosophy we follow each year is to keep the learning experiences challenging and allow the resident to grow and improve as clinicians in cardiology pharmacy. The resident will also have opportunity to act as preceptor in training for our PGY1 residents, in order to improve his/her teaching skills. Together we will design a training program around your knowledge, skills and interests. Our goal is to teach you how to use evidence-based medicine in making patient care decisions, how to meet medication needs of patients and develop professional relationships in the field of cardiology in the acute care and ambulatory care setting. As a resident, you are part of the innovative climate at Moses Cone and you will be actively involved in making decisions that are aligned with our mission and objectives. We encourage individual initiative and embrace multidisciplinary collaboration which keeps our residency training programs strong and at the forefront of pharmacy practice.

Residency Program Director
Program Purpose
PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.
Program Overview and Rotations
Program Overview
After an orientation period, the PGY2 Cardiology resident will work closely with the program director to develop a schedule that is tailored to match the resident’s personal goals as well as match residency requirements. The program structure will remain flexible throughout the year to ensure that all goals and learning opportunities are accomplished. This program will provide a broad overview of several different cardiovascular specialties (e.g., CCU, HF consult service, CV surgery, outpatient cardiovascular clinic) to train the resident to be an expert in the field. This will be accomplished by working closely with physicians, pharmacists, and administrators. Teaching opportunities include classroom instruction for pharmacy students as well as precepting pharmacy students and PGY1 pharmacy practice residents in the cardiac critical care unit.
