Care for All Types of Gynecologic Cancer

Expect personal treatment for any reproductive cancer affecting women. We care not just about your illness, but also about you as a person. So, treatment supports your specific needs and goals.

Uterine (Endometrial) Cancer

Hysterectomy (womb removal) is one of the most common treatments for early-stage endometrial cancer. But your doctor might recommend hormone therapy instead if you:

  • Hope to have children in the future
  • Aren’t healthy enough for surgery

To treat advanced uterine cancer, your Cone Health team might prescribe chemotherapy and radiation.

Ovarian Cancer

If you have ovarian cancer, doctors likely found it at a later stage. (That’s because there are no screenings for ovarian cancer, and its symptoms can also be signs of other conditions.) But you can count on us to create a strong treatment plan. It usually involves chemotherapy and surgery to remove the ovaries, womb, and fallopian tubes.

Cervical Cancer

If you have early-stage cervical cancer, we may recommend surgery and sometimes radiation to keep the cancer from coming back. For more advanced stages, chemotherapy and radiation give you the best chance for recovery.

Vulvar or Vaginal Cancer

For one of these less-common cancers, you’ll receive a specialized treatment plan that may include surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. A team of experts works together to choose the safest and most effective approach for you.

Precancerous Conditions

If a lump of tissue looks suspicious, your care team may be able to confirm and treat cancer in the same surgery. That means you can avoid a second procedure, making your care easier and more affordable.

Nurse Navigators Lead the Way

Cancer care can feel overwhelming with all the treatments, tests, and appointments. Rely on Cone Health’s nurse navigators to guide you through it all, so you can focus on getting well. You’ll see a gynecologic cancer navigator at our cancer centers at Wesley Long in Greensboro or Alamance Regional (Burlington). At our other cancer centers, you may see a general navigator who’s helped many women with cancer. Reach out to this expert any time you have questions, need help, or just want someone to listen.

Genetic Counseling & Testing

Your genes can play an important role in your cancer diagnosis and treatment plan. At Cone Health, you have timely access to genetic counselors who help identify your inherited risk of gynecologic cancers. If testing shows a genetic link, the results can:

  • Guide treatment choices
  • Reveal other cancer risks you should know about
  • Help your family take steps to reduce their risk of cancer

Our streamlined process means you get answers faster. That knowledge can make a difference for your future.

Advanced Surgical Expertise

You may recover faster if your surgery uses Cone Health’s robotic technology. It lets surgeons remove your womb or perform other treatments through small incisions or no incisions. That means less pain and scarring afterward, as well as a lower risk of side effects.

If cancer also affects your bladder or digestive organs, you’ll appreciate our close connection to specialists in urology or colorectal surgery. They help you get seamless, coordinated care.

Connection to UNC Brings You Even More Expertise

You don’t have to travel far for advanced care. That’s because doctors with UNC Health see you here in Greensboro at Cone Health Cancer Center at Wesley Long Hospital. Our partnership with UNC Health gives you access to:

  • Clinical trials of promising new treatments
  • Second opinions to help you make a confident, informed decision about treatment
  • Any surgical procedure you need

You get the best of both worlds: the expertise of an academic health system, but in your local area for your convenience.
