Chemotherapy
At Cone Health, you’ll have a team supporting you during chemo—a common medicine that kills cancer cells anywhere in your body. Trust us for care that not only improves your long-term outcome, but also makes treatment easier and more comfortable.
Infusion Areas Designed for You
You may receive chemo as pills, a cream, or by infusion—intravenously (IV), which means through a vein. Infusions take time to work their way through your bloodstream. So, you’ll appreciate our treatment areas with recliners and amenities like snacks, lunch, TVs, warm blankets, puzzles, and art activities. Feel free to bring a loved one for company and chat with fellow patients for support and camaraderie.
Technology Ensures Safe, Effective Care
Your team uses Apoteca technology to prepare just the right chemo for you. At our cancer centers at Wesley Long Hospital (Greensboro) and Alamance Regional (Burlington), robotic systems measure and mix doses with precision. At all six cancer centers, Apoteca systems weigh the dose and record each step of the process to confirm your medicine is exactly right. This automation ensures you always get safe treatment that works well.
Onsite Pharmacies & Labs
Our cancer centers have onsite pharmacies to prepare your treatment regimen. That includes the chemo as well as any fluids, anti-nausea drugs, allergy medicines, or other medications your doctor ordered. Onsite pharmacies mean you get treatment sooner. You also have easy access to pharmacists, nurses, doctors, and other cancer experts for help understanding your care and managing side effects.
Before each dose of chemo, we check your blood counts to make sure you’re well enough for treatment. At our onsite labs, results come back quickly. So, we can adjust your therapy, delay your infusion, or add medicines the same day. That keeps your care safe and convenient.

Scalp Cooling Reduces Hair Loss
Ask your team at Cone Health Cancer Center at Wesley Long Hospital about the DigniCap. This cold cap helps keep more of your hair during chemo for solid tumors (not blood cancers). It works by slowing blood flow to your hair follicles, so less chemo reaches them. Rest assured, Medicare and many private insurance companies cover scalp cooling. You can also apply for financial aid through nonprofits like HairToStay and the Rapunzel Project.
