How to Keep Your Kids Snug and Secure In Their Car Seats This Winter

Here's How to Keep Your Kids Snug and Secure in Their Car Seats This Winter

Getting the kids dressed can be challenging on its own, but in the wintertime, it’s important to also consider how winter clothing impacts the snug fit of your child’s car seat harness. These 4 tips will help make it easy to keep your kids warm, safe and secure in their car seats this winter.

Remove puffy winter clothing before buckling up. Bulky coats and fluffy snow pants can quickly flatten out, leaving space between your child and their car seat’s harness.

Dress your child in multiple layers. For infants, a good rule of thumb is to dress them in one more layer than you are wearing. Start with a long sleeve body suit. Add pants and a thin sweater. Over that, add a thin fleece. Then buckle up!

Add additional warmth over top of the harness. You can always cover younger kids up with a warm blanket, and older kids can put their winter coat on backwards over their harness.

Test the harness to make sure it fits snugly. If you can pinch the fabric of the harness together at the shoulder, then it’s too loose and you’ll need to tighten it up a bit.

A well-fitting car seat harness is essential for your child’s safety. These tips can help your most precious passengers stay warm and safe during your wintertime travels!
