What Is Heart and Vascular Rehabilitation?

Heart rehabilitation guides you through exercises and activities to strengthen your heart and vascular system, and improve your health.

You’ll attend cardiocvascular rehab two to three times a week, for eight to 12 weeks. You may participate in:

  • Group exercise closely monitored by heart specialists
  • Nutrition counseling with a registered dietitian
  • Education about heart function, stress management and how to reduce your risk of problems (family members and caregivers are welcome).

Do All Heart Surgery Patients Attend Cardiovascular Rehabilitation?

Many patients attend cardiovascular rehabilitation after heart surgery. Your cardiologist might recommend you start rehabilitation after heart surgery, a heart disease diagnosis or stroke.

You may be eligible for cardiavascular rehabilitation at Cone Health if you’ve recently experienced:

  • Cardiomyopathy (heart muscle condition)
  • Chest pain (stable angina)
  • Congestive heart failure
