Heart Smart Walking Trail Now Open at Moses Cone Hospital
The installation of "Heart Smart Trail" sidewalk art around Moses Cone Hospital marks the completion of the newest Cone Health Walks initiative.
The trail was created to encourage Cone Health team members and visitors to be active and embrace a healthy lifestyle. Cone Health's heart and vascular team sponsored and led the effort to create the trail, reflecting their commitment to our community's health and wellness.
"We envision the Heart Smart Trail as part of our evolution as a health care center," said Jake Hochrein, MD, medical chief at the Cone Health Heart and Vascular Center. "We want to help our community prevent heart disease as much as we want to provide exceptional care when it's needed."
In addition to heart shaped runners marking the trail on the sidewalk, the 1.2-mile route features quarter-mile marker posts, encouraging walkers with messages like "Great Start!" and "Home Stretch!"
The trail starts along the perimeter sidewalk just outside Moses Cone Hospital's east wing Employee Entrance and Emergency Department.
The start sign offers walkers wellness information aligned with Cone Health's "10 Habits of Highly Healthy People" website.
It joins the Cone Health Walks program at Tanger Outlets in Mebane as the second trail in the Cone Health Walks initiative.
"I'm proud the Heart Smart Trail will advance our Cone Health values of caring for our patients, each other and our communities," said Moses Cone Hospital President Mickey Foster. "Keep an eye out for an invitation to a kick off walk in weeks ahead, and until then, see you on the trail!"
