Family Fleeing Hurricane Irma Delivers at Women's Hospital

Florida Family Fleeing Hurricane Irma Delivers in Greensboro

Perhaps Hurricane Irma blew the stork off track. Jessica and Nicholas Hamra left their Hollywood, Fla., home to get out of the way of the big storm. Early Sunday they welcomed Skylar into the world. “I am so thankful for how kind everyone has been. Women's Hospital kind of makes me forget about the hospital I planned to have her in.”

Jessica’s planned hospital closed as the storm approached. Another hospital offered to allow her to stay and deliver her baby, but her husband and daughter would have to ride out the storm elsewhere. So the Hamras got to Guilford County just before the stork.  “This was really surreal. You take it one moment at a time. A friendly hospital staff made it easy to keep her calm and to be calm,” said Nicholas about the experience.

An aunt texted, “Please don’t name her Irma.”

Friends tell them their Florida home has no power, but it is in good shape.
