At Cone Health, we believe everyone should have the same opportunity to be as healthy as possible. That shared belief is the underpinning of our Center for Health Equity – a division of our organization working to close the gap when it comes to health disparities in the communities we serve.
Health equity represents a distinct shift in health care – where prevention and wellness are priorities, and where we as a health care system proactively reach out to patients both inside and outside of our walls.
The Center for Health Equity at Cone Health exists to preserve and improve human life in our communities.
Right now, the Center for Health Equity has a BIG vision – and one we are working hard to make a reality: We aim to reduce life expectancy disparities in our communities by five years in five years.
We discovered that depending on where you live in the Greensboro area has a lot to do with your life expectancy. People in ZIP codes 27405, 27406 and 27407 could die more than a decade earlier than people who live in ZIP codes in other parts of the city. This is due to a variety of factors, and we want to reduce this huge range by doing our part to address health equity issues.

How We’re Tackling Health Equity
We have big goals when it comes to leveling the health care playing field, which means we are always hard at work here at the Center for Health Equity. Here’s a peek into some of what we’re doing to create change:
- Ensuring each Cone Health patient leaves our care with what they need to recover and/or attain/maintain wellness
- Being active within our community and proactively providing education, screenings and other resources to our neighbors
- Seeking out community partners whose values and goals align with the Center for Health Equity’s values and goals
- Engaging with our Cone Health providers and staff and providing them with training in health equity to help them identify and address needs among patients
